The 4th of July is right around the corner, and to celebrate our nation’s independence, we put together a list of our four top American t-shirt brands who are producing shirts right here in the US of A.
If you’re on the lookout for some of the best American made t-shirts, read up on our favorite American made brands to see which one you should go with for your next t-shirt project.
If you haven’t been following along, it’s been a tumultuous year for American Apparel. But, after an ousted CEO, filing for bankruptcy, getting acquired by Gildan, pausing production for months, then relaunching, it seems like the apparel giant is finally back on its feet.
For a deeper look at American Apparel’s relaunch last year, head here!
A lot of things have changed from the American Apparel of old –– production no longer takes place solely in the USA, the brand is owned by parent company Gildan –– which made some people pause when the company relaunched, but we’re still big fans of American Apparel’s new t-shirts.
Though not all of American Apparel’s t-shirts are produced in the US, they have a selection of 10 pieces that are made domestically, so there’s a good chance you’ll be able to find what you’re looking for. In their USA collection, American Apparel includes:
- A unisex tee in 100% cotton, 50/50 blend, and tri-blend
- A women’s cut t-shirt in 100% cotton
- A v-neck t-shirt in 100% cotton
- A zip-up hoodie
- A tank top
- A raglan t-shirt
- A long-sleeve tee
- And a youth tee
Speaking of American Apparel’s ousted CEO, the polarizing Dov Charney is back at it with his new t-shirt line, Los Angeles Apparel.
Los Angeles Apparel seems to be taking almost the exact same approach that American Apparel did when they made it big — focusing on the basics, producing their shirts 100% in the USA, and paying their factory workers fair living wages.
Los Angeles Apparel offers an extensive catalog of domestically produced t-shirts, and seem to be adding to their catalog regularly. With a long list of different men’s and women’s styles, you’re sure to find the exact shirt you’re looking for.
We’d recommend checking out the LA Apparel 20001 (100% cotton) or the TR01 (tri-blend) for a standard unisex tee.
Though relatively under the radar, Royal Apparel offers perhaps the most extensive offering of USA made apparel on this list. Headquartered on Long Island, NY, Royal Apparel is about two things: USA made, and sustainably produced.
Royal Apparel’s fashion-forward styles, emphasis on American made craftsmanship, and dedication to eco-friendly manufacturing make them a really attractive choice for custom t-shirts.
Their collection includes an array of options for men, women, and children. And if being eco-conscious is important to you, they have loads of organic materials to choose from, including 100% organic cotton, an eco-friendly tri-blend, a hemp-cotton blend, and a bamboo-cotton blend.
Bella+Canvas is an overall awesome t-shirt company. Headquartered right in the middle of Los Angeles, Bella+Canvas is committed to producing retail-quality, sweatshop-free, environmentally conscious apparel.
Their commitment to quality shows. Everything from the fit to the feel of the fabric to the durability lets you know that B+C is committed to craftsmanship.
Known for their innovative fabrics and styles, constantly releasing new apparel types that give you unique choices. Two of their newer releases –– the black heather t-shirt line and PRISM –– give a new dimension to the standard t-shirt.
While not all of Bella+Canvas’ t-shirts are produced in the USA, a lot of their t-shirts are! Last year, they produced more than 10 million units in their Los Angeles production site. And if you’re looking for a t-shirt that you know was 100% sourced and produced in the USA, they offer the Canvas 3001U, their standard unisex t-shirt made up of fabrics completely made here in the states.
While not one of our most popular brands (inventory can be hard to get), American Giant a strong one 💪 and worth mentioning. American Giant is a US brand with a strong story—the video below captures it well. Most of their shirts are manufactured in the Carolinas with Carolina grown cotton. They go American hard—as you'd expect with a name like American Giant.
And although we're talking about t-shirts here, they're known for their hundred dollar hoodie.
Finding the top American t-shirt brands can be tricky—we hope this guide helps! If you have any more questions on t-shirts, brands, or how to get a t-shirt project started, let us know! Our team would love to talk to you.
